In the Hadran recited following a siyum, we express that those immersed in Torah study receive compensation for their efforts. This differentiates them from those in secular pursuits who work without receiving rewards.
The Chofetz Chaim challenged this idea. He notes that people in worldly professions also receive payment for their work. However, he clarifies that there is a glaring difference. With material work, enjoyment is separate from the task, and payment is merely a product of labor. (one would rather win the lottery than have to work for the money) Torah study, however, uniquely brings inherent enjoyment and reward within the work, alongside the promise of reward in the world to come.
Rabbi Chaim Shmulevitz further emphasized this notion, highlighting that the shalom zachor is a celebration despite the newborn's recent loss of the Torah knowledge acquired in the womb, as they now have the opportunity to find joy in the learning process itself through their toil.
