Rav Yechiel Yitzchok Perr zt”l, the esteemed rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Derech Ayson of Far Rockaway, passed away at 89.

Rabbi Yechiel Yitzchak Perr (1935 - 2024) was an American-born rabbi known for founding and serving as the rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Derech Ayson (Yeshiva of Far Rockaway) in New York. His educational journey includes attending Mesivta Yeshiva Rabbi Chaim Berlin for high school and further studies at the Talmudical Yeshiva of Philadelphia under Rav Shmuel Kamenetsky and Rav Elya Svei. He later continued his studies at the renowned Lakewood Yeshiva in Lakewood, New Jersey, under the guidance of Rabbi Aharon Kotler from 1954 to 1962.
Rabbi Perr married Shoshana Nekritz, daughter of Rabbi Yehuda Leib Nekritz, granddaughter of Rabbi Avraham Yaffen, and great-granddaughter of the Novardok Rabbi Yosef Yozel Horwitz. Following his marriage, he immersed himself in the Novardok tradition and pursued studies at Yeshivas Beis Yosef-Novardok in Brooklyn, New York. In 1969, Rabbi Perr established the Yeshiva of Far Rockaway, which offers a high school and accredited rabbinical studies programs.

Rabbi Perr was not just a scholarly talmid chochom but a venerable baal mussar and an outstanding mechanech. His legacy and teachings have left an indelible mark on those privileged to have known him and been inspired by his profound example, and his absence will be deeply felt.
