In this engaging discussion, we explore practical approaches to ensure we stay committed, regardless of others' opinions. Let's delve into the captivating world of personal commitment and resilience.

A note about the life and legacy of the revered Mashgiach of Beth Medrash Govoah in Lakewood: HaRav Matisyahu Salomon was born on November 28, 1937, and passed away on January 2, 2024. He was a true master of Torah and Mussar, impacting the lives of thousands with his wisdom and teachings. Hatzolah responders rushed to his home on Tuesday night when he fell ill, but unfortunately, they were unable to revive him.

The Mashgiach was born in Gateshead, England, and spent 16 years studying in yeshiva and Kollel. He was a devoted disciple of Rabbi Eliyahu Lopian, following the philosophy of the Kelm mussar school. In 1998, after the passing of Rav Nosson Wachtfogel zt"l, he moved to Lakewood to serve as the Mashgiach at Beth Medrash Govoah.

Throughout his life, the Mashgiach delivered inspiring Shmuesin (Mussar discourses) and Shiurim (lectures) on various topics, which were compiled into seforim named "Matnas Chaim." He also organized a tremendous gathering of over 40,000 people at Citi Field Stadium in May 2012 to raise awareness about the potential dangers of the internet. Rav Matisyahu Salomon's contributions to Torah and the Lakewood community are immeasurable. May his memory be a blessing.

00:00:01.143 --> 00:00:21.771
Citing a fascinating psychological evaluation of the human mind, revmatyshio Solomon, the Mashiach, here in Basemegerskivowa, here in Lakewood, shlita tells us that when you make a kabbalah, there's one necessary ingredient that your recipe of a successful New Year's resolution must include for it to work.

00:00:21.771 --> 00:00:42.127
That is that when you make a kabbalah for example I'm not going to talk slanderous, lush and hard between five and six o'clock on Tuesday afternoon you shouldn't talk about it anymore, because the driving force behind the kabbalah is often that uncomfortable angst that you feel of I really shouldn't be doing this.

00:00:42.127 --> 00:00:44.411
So you commit to it to try to overcome it.

00:00:44.411 --> 00:01:02.713
But when you talk about it and your brain hears through your ears Masha'ata Motsemi Piv, that what you've spoken about when you're now telling your friend, yeah, I don't talk about lush and hard anymore, I don't say lush and hard anymore your brain loses the pain that it wants to fix it.

00:01:02.713 --> 00:01:07.450
It now says, oh, we're beating it, we're doing it, and now you lose that drive.

00:01:07.450 --> 00:01:08.712
Very interesting.

00:01:08.712 --> 00:01:10.365
So therefore you shouldn't talk about it.

00:01:10.365 --> 00:01:14.364
I was talking to another wise man who told me there's another approach too.

00:01:14.364 --> 00:01:18.882
You can do the complete opposite and you can tell all of your friends and family.

00:01:18.882 --> 00:01:22.441
You can text your friends and say, yeah, by the way, I don't talk lush and hard between five and six.

00:01:22.441 --> 00:01:29.230
Now that's weird and they're going to be like, well, why are you telling me this is kind of odd, and you will know that, or even tell them?

00:01:29.230 --> 00:01:40.599
It's because when you tell people that you're doing something, you now lock yourself into doing it and now you have to spur yourself on oh yeah, to be here, that Masha'ata is not going to be talking lush and hard between five and six.

00:01:40.599 --> 00:01:47.743
It becomes you, it becomes something that you now must do and it's another way that you can help your Kabbalah this year to stick.

00:01:54.855 --> 00:01:56.438
Thank you for listening to that episode.

00:01:56.438 --> 00:01:57.040
I hope you're well.

00:01:57.040 --> 00:01:58.081
