Soar Like the Angels: Overcoming Spiritual Drag During Elul

What if you could transcend your earthly distractions and truly soar like the angels? Join us for a thought-provoking conversation where we dissect the fascinating duality of human nature, exploring why part of us yearns for spiritual elevation. At the same time, worldly temptations bog down another part. Drawing inspiration from the Wright brothers and nature’s avian wonders, we delve into reducing "drag"—those pesky, counterproductive forces that hold us back from achieving our higher selves.

Surround yourself with uplifting, noble individuals to cut through spiritual resistance and elevate your life. We'll share wisdom from esteemed rabbis about the importance of good friends and mentors, emphasizing how spiritual communities can help us overcome obstacles and move towards a more fulfilling existence. Get inspired by the idea of flying in a "holy flock" as we reveal practical steps to foster growth, joy, and spiritual upliftment by aligning ourselves with like-minded, virtuous souls. Fly with us on this journey to spiritual and personal development!

00:00:01.963 --> 00:00:11.585
You know, humans are really weird because we're part angel but part dirt and I think of her very fair.

00:00:11.585 --> 00:00:18.814
So part of us wants to fly and part of us wants to not move a muscle and just sit on the couch and eat potato chips.

00:00:18.814 --> 00:00:25.085
We're kind of like the odd couple and it can get pretty squishy at times.

00:00:25.085 --> 00:00:26.509
Hopefully you can relate.

00:00:26.509 --> 00:00:28.132
So you know what we got to do.

00:00:28.132 --> 00:00:46.348
If we really want to learn how to be angelic and fly, feel like we got to reduce our drag right, because if we want to fly, the main force that holds flying things back is the air resistance, the air molecules pushing back on an airplane.

00:00:46.348 --> 00:00:48.387
You gotta resist drag.

00:00:48.387 --> 00:00:50.006
That's what the Wright brothers told us.

00:00:50.006 --> 00:00:53.362
You gotta increase lift and thrust.

00:00:53.362 --> 00:01:02.265
We gotta increase lift and thrust if we wanna channel that inner angel and get rid of the drag.

00:01:02.265 --> 00:01:04.010
So how do you do that?

00:01:04.010 --> 00:01:05.441
I vote.

00:01:05.460 --> 00:01:10.612
We take a play out of Bird's playbook.

00:01:10.612 --> 00:01:13.655
See, they like to fly in flocks.

00:01:13.655 --> 00:01:47.590
When they migrate, when they want to come together and forage collectively down towards a warmer spot, they all choose to meet up, maybe make a V and fly together, not just because they want friends, but because science tells us that in aerodynamics, when you have a flock flying in a V, you can reduce 25% of the drag when you fly together, percent of the drag when you fly together.

00:01:47.590 --> 00:01:50.212
See, when you fly together, you reduce drag.

00:01:50.212 --> 00:02:06.290
Ladies and gentlemen, if you want to increase your thrust and your lift and reduce your drag, your air resistance, you get yourself a holy flock and you hang out with feathered friends.

00:02:06.290 --> 00:02:08.520
That's how you reduce the drag, the spiritual drag.

00:02:09.320 --> 00:02:17.030
Every single great rabbi will probably relate to you that k'nei l'cha chavar, a'sei l'cha rab, a'sei l'cha rab.

00:02:17.030 --> 00:02:25.092
Have good friends, have a great rabbi, learn in the shul daven, where the people are upstanding, noble individuals.

00:02:25.092 --> 00:02:34.192
That's how you shtag your environment and your friends are very much going to shape who you are.

00:02:34.192 --> 00:03:04.371
So the slightest, most insignificant change, but probably the most helpful and productive change that we can make this level, is to choose and ensure that we daven, that we hang out, chill, learn, study, play with noble, feathered friends, with others that are flying and migrating to the place that is holy.

00:03:04.371 --> 00:03:17.949
And like this you reduce your drag, you reduce the resistance and you're flying literally like a bird, like an angel, to the Makum of Kedusha.

00:03:17.949 --> 00:03:26.472
And it's so much easier when the drag is cut because you're migrating as part of a holy flock.
